Bromley defend a Crewe free-kick |
Andy Woodman’s side were made to work for the points after Cheek’s 52nd-minute finish, with the hosts struggling to find any fluency in attack.
Cheek made amends for an early miss when Crewe captain Mickey Demetriou slipped, leaving the striker unmarked on the edge of the area, only for his effort to go straight at Tom Booth.
With Jack Lankester making his first start of the season following injury, Crewe looked lively in the opening half but were unable to take advantage. Lankester twice went close in quick succession, first curling wide after cutting inside before seeing another attempt deflected off target.
The Railwaymen found it increasingly difficult to unlock Bromley’s well-drilled defence and were punished soon after the interval. When James Connolly failed to deal with Jude Arthurs’ routine delivery, Cheek pounced, slipping before slotting the ball through Booth’s legs.
The forward almost struck again moments later, Booth reacting smartly to divert his close-range volley behind, while substitute Nicke Kabamba was also denied by the Crewe goalkeeper, who turned away his header at the far post.

Crewe threw everything at the game in a late bid to salvage a result, but Bromley stood firm under pressure and held on for all three points, even with nine minutes of added time played.
Next up, they face Cambridge United away from home and will hope to build on this solid performance and secure another win.
