Concert Review: Sugababes

Image
The iconic British girl group’s songs have stood the test of time. It had taken Sugababes 25 years to get to the point of heading out on an arena tour. Author - Lucy W Judging by the dedication of their 02 audience, the iconic British girl group’s songs have stood the test of time. For the most part of this concert, it was a night (or 80 minutes) of wall-to-wall bangers.  It’s easy to forget just how many bangers they have in their arsenal but, whipping through ‘Overload’, ‘Hole in the Head’, ‘In The Middle’ and ‘Red Dress’ within the first 15 minutes made you remember how good they were.  READ MORE:  A closer look at London's best gig venues READ MORE:  Gig Review: The Bug Club READ MORE:  Gig Review: Jack White Returning to the end of the platform in their rave gear, ‘Round Round’ is served with a dance break and neon green strobes. ‘Freaks’ and ‘Push The Button’ come in quick succession and, before final song ‘About You Now’. What's your favourite venue in London? Here at London Super News and Super News Affiliate, we love going to gigs. Author - Terry J We spent a bit of time thinking about the greatest gig venues across London and came up with the following list. Is your favourite on there? The O2 An obvious choice to start with. London's largest indoor arena. It's capable of hosting massive concerts and events. One of our writers was recently there for  The Wombats  and he said that he is still impressed by it.  The Roundhouse A historic venue located in Camden, known for its state-of-the-art facilities and hosting a wide range of music events. Their website says: "Since the 1960s we've opened up space for creativity to empower people and communities." Brixton O2 Academy This is another stunning venue known for its excellent acoustics and hosting a variety of genres. It's a mid-sized concert venue in South London, in the Lambeth district of Brixton. This was ho...

Gig Review: The Wombats

Image
The Wombats bring chaos and charm to a triumphant show The O2 Arena can be an imposing venue, but for The Wombats, it feels like a second home.  Author - Josh D Having performed for thousands of adoring fans in Nottingham the night before, they arrived in London with the same effortless confidence, blending sharp wit, commanding stage presence and sheer musical expertise.  This wasn’t just a greatest-hits spectacle. This was a celebration, weaving old favourites with highlights from their latest album, Oh! The Ocean, in a set that felt both polished and infectiously chaotic. Opening with Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come, the trio set the tone for the night. The recorded version is knowingly nonchalant, but live, it took on a new energy, driven by frontman Matthew Murphy’s effortless vocal control and deft multi-tasking.  They managed to switch seamlessly between singing, keyboards and guitar. Tord Øverland Knudsen and Dan Haggis flanked him with tight harmonies a...

Gig Review: The Bug Club

Image
The Bug Club once again delivered a high-energy performance show. A fantastic night of music at the Electric Ballroom back in February Author - Josh D How was the support act? Opening for one of the sharpest bands on the circuit right now is no easy task, but Holiday Ghosts rises to the challenge with ease. From my vantage point in the thickening crowd at the Electric Ballroom, they seem almost disarmingly young for a group so self-assured.  Their set is anchored by the impressively steady drumming and vocals of Kate Raskin, while Sam Stacpoole’s sumptuous guitar work, alongside his own vocal contributions, adds further depth. With snappy songs and infectious hooks, they displayed serious raw talent. More music stories and gig reviews from London Super News The main event The last time I caught The Bug Club, in front of a smaller London crowd, they left me stunned. They still look like they’re having the time of their lives, and if anything, their connection with the audience h...

Gig Review: Jack White

Image
Jack White performed his 2024 solo album No Name in a barnstorming gig.  The former White Stripe frontman is still the real deal. Author - Josh D Dressed all in black and leather with a mop of jet black curls, he looked his early White Stripes more than he has in a long while.  White lets the music speak for itself for much of the night, powering through his own back catalogue alongside covers of The Stooges and blues legend Robert Johnson. He weaves in eight White Stripes tracks and two from The Raconteurs, whose drummer, Patrick Keeler, is part of his current band. There’s even a moment for his supergroup, The Dead Weather, featuring a back-and-forth between White and keyboardist Bobby Emmett—along with one of those slightly awkward exchanges in the pit. Source | Automorph YouTube account "I Cut Like a Buffalo" slinks along with a raw, stripped-back groove, driven by the Hammond organ and punctuated by syncopated, delay-drenched guitars. White’s guttural, choking vocal ...
