Concert Review: Sugababes
The iconic British girl group’s songs have stood the test of time.
It had taken Sugababes 25 years to get to the point of heading out on an arena tour.
Judging by the dedication of their 02 audience, the iconic British girl group’s songs have stood the test of time.
For the most part of this concert, it was a night (or 80 minutes) of wall-to-wall bangers.
It’s easy to forget just how many bangers they have in their arsenal but, whipping through ‘Overload’, ‘Hole in the Head’, ‘In The Middle’ and ‘Red Dress’ within the first 15 minutes made you remember how good they were.

Returning to the end of the platform in their rave gear, ‘Round Round’ is served with a dance break and neon green strobes. ‘Freaks’ and ‘Push The Button’ come in quick succession and, before final song ‘About You Now’. These songs have groups of friends frantically jumping together as if they are at a pop-punk gig – the trio stand and take in the cheering adoration.
It would have taken a real Sugababes fan to know some of the songs. However, we were surrounded by people who knew exactly what every song was and were having a fantastic time. So, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
We know the Sugababes story doesn’t end here: they are already booking festival slots for next summer, where this show will excel. But whatever happens next, it seems that the group’s original line-up has fully reclaimed their legacy.
Reaction from those that were there.
Most people in the venue would also downloaded mp3 files of early Sugababes songs. Back in the day, they were writing down the lyrics as we listened to them so they could learn the lyrics and also pretend to be in a girl band at playtime. Everyone did that, didn't they? Maybe it was just me.
We caught up with several people who attended the show and they were all buzzing with excitement. Ultimately, this was a special night for your and old Sugababes fans alike. One told us: "A fantastic evening."
Victoria added: "My favourite band growing up and I was happy to see them live again."
Jamie said, "I’m not a huge fan of them, but they put on a fantastic show. Some of those songs from the 2000s have truly stood the test of time."
Paula also gave her thoughts on a fabulous evening. She said: "I think it was one of those nights where everyone just gets together and has a nice evening. The atmosphere was so great. A fantastic night out with some of my best friends."
