Norwegian midfielder Sondre Tronstad opened his league account in style, netting twice as Rovers secured their first home win in over two months.

In a frenetic end to the first half, Dominic Hyam’s header and a deflected strike from Tronstad came either side of Mihailo Ivanovic’s equaliser, sending Blackburn in at the break with a 2–1 lead.

Callum Brittain extended the advantage with a sharp finish at the near post, before Tronstad lashed in his second to round off a commanding display and leave Millwall’s debutant goalkeeper, George Evans, with little chance.

Victory would have seen Millwall close the gap to the top six to just three points. Instead, they remain six adrift with only three matches left to play, their promotion ambitions now hanging by a thread.

The away side went into the game in great form. Their fans were really starting to dream of a spot in the top 6.

However, they were dealt a blow before the game when first-choice goalkeeper Lukas Jensen was ruled out injured. This was potentially of how the day was going to pan out.

With back-up choice Liam Roberts also unavailable, 19-year-old Evans was given his debut.

The teenager made some strong saves in a solid display and was not at fault for any of the goals.

With four wins in their previous five matches, a late dash over the line had given Millwall fans hope of a chance of getting to Wembley.

Their fading hopes have not yet been completely extinguished. However, this defeat in Lancashire leaves them needing at least seven points from their final three matches, against Norwich, Swansea and title-chasing Burnley. Coventry also need to lose three matches for them to have any chance of gatecrashing the play-off party.
