Daniel Muñoz scored the winner in the second half on an afternoon filled with drama, tension and controversy in south London.

The hosts got off to the perfect start, opening the scoring inside three minutes. Jean-Philippe Mateta continued his fine form by collecting a well-weighted pass from Eberechi Eze and curling a composed finish into the top corner.

Brighton responded strongly and built momentum as the half progressed. Dean Henderson was called into action, producing a smart double save to deny Carlos Baleba before pushing away a close-range effort from Danny Welbeck.

The Seagulls levelled just after the half-hour mark. Yankuba Minteh whipped in an excellent cross from the right, and Welbeck reacted quickest to steer it in from close range. It was a milestone moment for the striker, who became Brighton’s all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League.

Despite Brighton’s growing dominance, Palace regained control after the break. Eze was once again involved, sliding a clever pass through to Colombian full-back Muñoz, who fired a low strike into the far corner to restore the lead.

As the match wore on, emotions boiled over. Substitute Eddie Nketiah was shown two yellow cards in the space of nine minutes, the second for a high foot on Jan Paul van Hecke. Then, with nearly 14 minutes of stoppage time to come, Marc Guéhi was also dismissed for a second bookable offence after a late challenge on Brajan Gruda.

Brighton were also reduced to ten men during stoppage time when Van Hecke pulled back Daichi Kamada as the last defender, bringing an already frantic match to an even more heated conclusion.

Palace dug in for the final minutes and showed real resilience to protect their lead. The result marks a fifth win in six matches across all competitions and moves the Eagles to within two points of the Premier League’s top half.
