Football: Mansfield Town 1 - 2 Charlton Athletic
Charlton continue fine form with a win at Mansfield
Charlton Athletic extended their impressive run with a battling 2-1 victory at Mansfield, making it seven wins and a draw from their last eight games.

The visitors started strongly and came close to an early breakthrough, with Thierry Small heading wide from Tyreece Campbell’s inviting cross inside the opening two minutes.
Macaulay Gillesphey then tested Christy Pym with a low drive after 13 minutes, but the Mansfield goalkeeper was equal to it.
Charlton’s pressure paid off in the 22nd minute, albeit with a slice of fortune. A loose pass from Louis Reed at the back rolled straight into the path of Matty Godden, who made no mistake in capitalising on the gift.

Mansfield responded well, stepping up a gear as Reed went close with a drilled effort from distance in the 29th minute. Their persistence was rewarded just before the break when Baily Cargill’s cross was cleared only as far as Matty Craig, who unleashed a stunning rising strike from 16 yards, the ball cannoning in off the underside of the bar.
The hosts finished the half strongly, with Caylan Vickers forcing a smart save from Will Mannion. After the restart, Josh Edwards saw a shot blocked on the line following a goalmouth scramble from a corner.
But Charlton found the decisive moment with 16 minutes to go. Tennai Watson teed up Campbell, who darted past Stephen McLaughlin before slotting a low, composed finish inside the near post from the edge of the box.
Mansfield piled on the pressure late on, but Charlton stood firm. Pym produced a superb stoppage-time save to deny Chuks Aneke and ensure another valuable three points for Michael Appleton’s in-form side.
