News: The best of the London Marathon
The London Marathon is one of our finest events
Let's explore some of the best bits and quotes from the 2025 event.

Once a year, the city comes together to celebrate one of the great sporting occasions. The 45th edition of the event was aiming to break a record and become the marathon race with the most competitors.
There are expected to be more than 56,000 people taking part this year, from the elite field through to those runners dressed as dinosaurs or carrying animals.
Who's won the elite races
In the women's event, Olympic silver medallist Tigst Assefa managed to burst clear of the 2021 winner Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya with around 10km to go before crossing the line in two hours 15 minutes 50 seconds.
Assefa managed to beat the previous record, set by Peres Jepchirchir in London last year, by 26 seconds.
Jepkosgei achieved a credible second place, nearly three minutes behind, whilst 2023 winner and Olympic champion Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands third.
In the men's race, debutant Sawe kicked on with a little over 10km (6.21 miles) remaining and his rivals were unable to respond, with the Kenyan finishing in fairly remarkable 02:27.
