What do you think of their performance?

Mikel Arteta arrived in Paris with the promise of making history, but it was the weight of recent disappointments that ultimately defined Arsenal’s exit from the Champions League.

Despite looking dangerous at times, Arsenal were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain, a side that has knocked out some of the Premier League’s leading lights during this European campaign.
As fireworks lit up the night sky and noise echoed around the stadium, Arteta and his players were left to absorb a bitter conclusion. They now join Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa as Premier League casualties of Luis Enrique’s dynamic and fast-maturing side.
Beneath the surface lies a more unsettling truth for Arsenal. The club remains without a major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 2020, and for all the rhetoric around development and trajectory, it is silverware that defines success at this level.

Arteta remains well-regarded and his job is not under threat, but the pressure to convert progress into tangible success is growing. Arsenal have shown promise, often at the highest level, yet they remain a side whose achievements fall short of their ambitions.
This was another case in point. For all their composure and intensity in Paris, they could not find a way past Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian goalkeeper was once again superb, denying Gabriel Martinelli from close range and then producing a remarkable save to stop Martin Ødegaard’s low effort.
The tie had arguably been shaped by its opening phases in both legs. PSG’s early goal at the Emirates from Ousmane Dembélé gave them the advantage, and while Arsenal responded with verve in the return match, they could not find the crucial breakthrough.
There is no shortage of talent in this Arsenal team. Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Ødegaard are among the finest in the Premier League, and the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly offers a glimpse of a promising future.
However, the elite clubs are measured by what they win, not how close they come.
Even the chaotic Manchester United have managed to win some trophies in recent seasons.
In conclusion | A big summer ahead for Arteta
Arsenal’s hopes of making a mark in Europe have ended once more. Their immediate task is to ensure a top-five finish and a return to the Champions League next season. But the broader challenge remains: turning potential into silverware, and performances into prizes.
Listening to Arteta’s reaction after the game, you do get the impression that he's planning to strengthen the side in the summer. We badly need a striker. Ollie Watkins would be perfect and would feasibly get us an extra 10 or 15 goals next season.
Whether that will enough to get us over the line in the Premier League and Champions League is a very different question that our boss has to answer.
