Gig Review | Wet Leg at Brixton Academy
Wet Leg are back
They burst onto the British music scene with the comically surrealist, innuendo-laden single Chaise Longue in 2021. This followed by a brashly amusing album of smart aleck, electro pop punk in 2022. Where to next for them?

Venue | Brixton Academy
This gig marked the second night of the band’s first UK headline tour in support of their second album, ‘Moisturizer’ (due in July), and presents the Isle Of Wight band in new and improved form.
The group had occasionally often looked bemused and in awe of the stages they were performing on and the crowds they were performing to. The whirlwind that started with ‘Chaise Longue’ in 2021 quickly grew to hectic levels, leaving the band little time to settle into their new roles as the next anointed stars of British indie.
What they managed to excel at the first time round was whipping crowds up into giddy states with their bouncy indie. The enthusiasm for those songs has only grown stronger since the last time they toured
The crowd of 5,000 pales in comparison to the stadiums and outdoor spaces they were becoming a fixture in as support act to Harry Styles and Pulp. The band’s performance at this gig suggests it’s far from the biggest venue they’ll be seeing as they release and tour this new album. Headline slots at some festivals surely awaits them over the next few months.
A fantastic setlist
Throughout this gig, you can tell that it's a band definitely on the up. By the time they start Chaise Lounge, there's a wonderful atmosphere. A friend said: "Chaise Longue went off with the same energy of a firework being slapped with a cricket bat." We've no idea what that means but we think that sums it up quite well.
Before that, 'Ur Mum’ remained a crowd favourite and provide joy to fill the room while ‘Davina McCall’ is quickly making its way into a similar category.
A fantastic evening in Brixton. Everyone that was stood around us was looking forward to seeing Wet Leg again and, like us, they are convinced that it's going to be in a much bigger venue.

Reaction from someone that was there
"A few years ago, some labelled them the next stars of British indie. At first, I wasn’t convinced, but that performance completely blew me away. The sound wasn’t even great (through no fault of their own), yet the overall vibe and atmosphere of the gig were incredible. What an amazing night."
