A break in play

Kjerrumgaard, on loan from Udinese, opened his account in English football with two goals in the space of four first-half minutes. His double proved decisive for the Hornets, who finished with 10 men after Imran Louza was dismissed late on for a rash challenge on Jonathan Varane.

Kieran Morgan’s powerful strike in first-half stoppage time offered Rangers hope, but Julien Stéphan’s side remain without a win under their new manager.

QPR's best chance of an equaliser came when recent signing Richard Koné saw his close-range effort cleared off the line by Marc Bola shortly after coming on for his debut.

Kjerrumgaard’s first came after Nestory Irankunda, another summer arrival, burst down the left and picked him out for a simple finish beyond Joe Walsh. Minutes later Louza swung in a precise cross from the right and the striker stole a march on Steve Cook to head in from close range.

Rangers halved the deficit just before the interval when Morgan lashed in from the edge of the box, and they pressed after the restart. Koné was denied a dream debut goal and Sam Field later missed a good chance, dragging wide after being set up by teenager Esquerdinha.

QPR now face a testing trip to Coventry next weekend as they search for their first win of the campaign.
