Alexia: He has taken the club from regular relegation battles to consistent European football, overseen the building of a remarkable new stadium, attracted top managers and a number of exciting players. Tottenham came close to winning the league and reached several finals and semi-finals, though the trophy count could have been far greater. Ultimately, Levy will be remembered as a moderniser who left behind a well-run club that many across the football world envy. He can retire with a sense of accomplishment.

Wilson: My first reaction is happiness. Many Spurs supporters have wanted this for a long time. Yet with no change of ownership I am not sure what this means in practice. I am curious whether this was part of a plan or if Levy has simply acknowledged his mistakes this summer.

Daniel: I have been firmly in the ‘Levy Out’ camp in recent years because of poor football decisions, but it is impossible to deny that the club has grown enormously since the Alan Sugar days. White Hart Lane was special but the new stadium is an extraordinary achievement and the defining project of Levy’s time in charge. I wish him well. Thank you, Daniel.

Peter: I am glad he was involved in a prominent position at the club when we won the Europa League in May, he deserved that.

David: I feel thankful. Thankful for the financial strength he built at the club, and thankful that he has now stepped aside. His reputation for tough negotiations often backfired and cost Tottenham a number of signings. Too many people knew how to play him.

Paul: Levy’s legacy will inevitably be tied to the stadium and the training ground, but also to a sense of underachievement on the pitch. There will be mixed emotions, though he can certainly hold his head high for what he accomplished on the business side. Hindsight makes it easy to judge, yet when you look at the bigger picture it feels clear that he always had the club’s best interests at heart.

Jamie: He has faced plenty of criticism, yet on the business side the club has clearly evolved. Whatever else is said about him, that achievement cannot be taken away.
