Alex Neil handed Will Smallbone his first start for Millwall, while the substitutes’ bench looked stronger than usual, with Billy Mitchell and Mihailo Ivanovic returning from injury.

Millwall had to withstand early pressure from the hosts. A Vipotnik effort was deflected wide, but on 12 minutes he made amends as Swansea took the lead in scrappy circumstances. Zeidane Inoussa advanced into the box before finding Ronald, who evaded a tackle and squared for Vipotnik. The striker’s finish just crept past Ryan Leonard to give the hosts the advantage.

Millwall responded through Thierno Ballo and Derek Mazou-Sacko, but Smallbone’s attempt from the edge of the area went wide, while Ethan Galbraith’s long-range strike failed to trouble Steven Benda. Inoussa’s snapshot from outside the box also flashed past the far post.

Shortly before the half-hour mark, a sweeping move by Millwall could have produced an equaliser, but Smallbone’s left-footed shot went wide. The away fans continued to cheer as Ballo and Mazou-Sacko combined, only for Lawrence Vigouroux to save, and the follow-up cross was cleared. Five minutes from half-time, another flowing Millwall move almost led to a goal, but a goal-saving challenge from Ben Cabango kept Swansea in front.

Millwall were finally rewarded in stoppage time. A deep free-kick found Jake Cooper at the back post, and Coburn used his strength to head home from close range, restoring parity.

The second half saw Swansea look for a quick response. Leonard and Mazou-Sacko were alert to deal with crosses from Josh Key and a free-kick routine, while Millwall continued to press. Smallbone and Emakhu combined on the break, but Tristan Crama’s defending prevented Benda from being troubled.

On 68 minutes, Neil brought on Camiel Neghli and Macaulay Langstaff for Smallbone and Ballo. Ronald had a long-range effort go over the crossbar, and Neghli’s first contribution was a precise left-footed cross that had to be headed behind. Two corners followed, both defended by Crama.

With 74 minutes played, Swansea’s defence wavered under pressure. Vigouroux failed to deal with the ball in the penalty area, and Langstaff’s attempt was blocked. A quick through-ball from Bryan forced Vigouroux into another stop, before Mitchell returned to action alongside Ivanovic, replacing Mazou-Sacko and Coburn.

Substitute Manuel Benson had one of Swansea’s few second-half efforts, which went wide. Ra’ees Bangura-Williams featured in the closing minutes after Adam Idah had a goal disallowed, and Idah glanced a header wide in stoppage time. Millwall held firm to claim a deserved point on the road.
