The mood could hardly be more buoyant. Palace head into Europe on the back of last season’s landmark FA Cup victory, a Community Shield win over Liverpool at Wembley in August, and an unbeaten league start that has taken them to third place in the Premier League.

Amid the celebrations, questions linger about what lies ahead.

Captain Marc Guehi has only nine months left on his contract and, unless circumstances change, the England defender is expected to leave at the end of the season. Adam Wharton, their outstanding midfielder, is attracting serious interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

And then there is Oliver Glasner, the architect of Palace’s transformation. The Austrian manager’s contract also runs out next summer and, as things stand, he too is set to depart.

What's the future looking like?

Glasner was offered fresh terms earlier in the summer but has yet to sign an extension.

According to well-placed sources, the Austrian chose to wait until after the transfer window closed before deciding, a stance rooted in his desire to gauge how serious the club were about strengthening the squad.

As the weeks went by, Glasner was increasingly vocal in his criticism of the way Palace conducted their business in a summer that ultimately saw the club record a profit of £16.3m. Of the five new arrivals, only Yeremy Pino has started a Premier League match.

There was also the setback of being demoted from the Europa League after Uefa ruled they had breached multi-club ownership regulations.

Against that backdrop, it is perhaps no surprise Glasner has so far held back from committing his future. Which leads to the question: could he still be persuaded to stay on?
