The Bees beat Premier League opposition Bournemouth and Aston Villa in the two previous rounds. As for Grimsby, who currently sit sixth in League Two, they defeated Shrewsbury Town, Manchester United, and Sheffield Wednesday.
Building on the momentum from Liverpool win
At the weekend, Brentford beat Liverpool in what was a memorable Saturday night at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The scoreline might suggest a tight contest, yet in truth this was a commanding performance in which Andrews' side made a struggling Liverpool appear a clear step behind.
Much has been said about Kayode's long throw that created the opener, but this was a cohesive team effort where that tactic served as only one element of a well-executed victory.
After the match, one Brentford fan told us: “We were full of energy and heart, and showed real quality too. Our form in recent weeks has been really impressive, given the players we lost over the summer. Andrews has clearly taken good lessons from Thomas Frank, and his plan worked to perfection against a Liverpool side that still has plenty of talent. A proud night for everyone connected with the club.

Team News
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said that his squad will be utilised for Tuesday night's Carabao Cup tie against Grimsby Town. The Brentford boss told the media: “The bench has made a huge impact in recent weeks. Goals from it, courage, personality, and experience, so they need to be rewarded and the squad will be utilised.”
A look at the opposition
Having knocked Manchester United out in round two of the competition, Grimsby Town arrive in solid form. The Mariners sit sixth in the table, only two points off the summit, and the data indicates they will look to dictate possession on Tuesday night.
David Artell has shaped his side around an attractive, possession-focused approach with control at its core. Grimsby currently hold an average of 61 per cent possession in league matches, the highest figure in the division.
Joint-top scorers in League Two, they have struck 27 goals this season, 18 of those coming from open play, and their attacking numbers in 2025/26 continue to stand out.
No team in the fourth tier attempts more shots per match than Grimsby, who average 14.9, while they also lead the league for shots on target per 90 minutes with five.
A cup run can be great for a club in the lower leagues, though their manager will be wary of it distracting from what is developing into a genuine promotion push. Grimsby have not played above the fourth tier since the 2003/04 season, so everything from this point feels like an added reward.
