Palace fans made a fantastic atmosphere

Crystal Palace marked their first group-stage match in European competition with a memorable victory as Daniel Muñoz opened the scoring with a looping header from Yeremy Pino’s cross before substitute Eddie Nketiah doubled the lead with a clinical finish after another fine delivery from Pino.

The 3,500 travelling supporters celebrated wildly, and even the late red card for Borna Sosa could not take the shine off a historic night.

A closer look at their European adventure so far

Having been dropped into the Conference League after Uefa ruled the Eagles had breached multi-club ownership rules, Glasner’s side edged past Fredrikstad in the qualifying round.

On the night when their journey to Leipzig truly began, Palace produced an accomplished display at the Lublin Arena. Far from appearing like novices in their first continental campaign, Palace made clear their credentials as one of the frontrunners for this competition, even with Jean-Philippe Mateta departing at half-time.

The French striker, newly called into the national team squad, would have wanted to mark the occasion with a goal, but his absence was barely noticed. If anything, Palace found greater fluency in the second half, with Adam Wharton dictating play and summer signing Yeremy Pino sharp on the ball.

Eddie Nketiah, who struck the late winner against Liverpool at the weekend to lift Palace into third in the Premier League, provided another decisive intervention from the bench after replacing Mateta.

Comments from those who were there

Alan: I can’t quite believe it, 19 games unbeaten, the finances in order, two trophies already and a young side packed with internationals. Not bad for a club who always finishes 12th!

Tommy: Best to stay grounded and savour it while it lasts, the noise will only grow the longer this run continues. CPFC since 1969!

Mikey: Back the manager with the funds he is asking for but keep the recruitment structure intact. The formula is working.
