The visitors adopted a compact defensive shape, limiting Chelsea's opportunities in the box, but Sonia Bompastor’s side were handed the opening goal when Sjoeke Nusken was deemed to have been fouled in the area following a VAR review, allowing Sandy Baltimore to convert from the penalty spot.
Paris tried to respond but appeared unsteady. Erin Cuthbert won possession in midfield and delivered to Thompson on the wing, who then set up Johanna Rytting Kaneryd to head past Mylene Chavas.
Chelsea continued to create opportunities, with Aggie Beever-Jones almost adding a third as her header struck the underside of the bar just before half-time.

The second-half performance was their best of the season so far...
Within 90 seconds of the restart, 20-year-old US forward Thompson increased the lead, finishing a drilled pass from Keira Walsh at the back post.
Paris offered little threat in reply, and Chelsea extended their advantage when the visitors failed to clear a corner from Sandy Baltimore, allowing Cuthbert to tap in from close range.
The hosts continued to press, with Guro Reiten striking the bar, but they could not add to their tally. The result leaves Chelsea unbeaten across all competitions after eight matches this season. However, this was by far their best performance of the season.
The home side outsmarted the low block
Chelsea produced a performance that will have reassured Sonia Bompastor after a patch of inconsistent results, including consecutive draws and a narrow win over Tottenham. The team overcame a disciplined Paris low block by remaining patient in possession and capitalising on key moments once the momentum shifted in their favour.
Pivotal to Chelsea’s display was the impact of Thompson, whose blistering pace and direct running unsettled the visitors. Although she is still adjusting to her new surroundings and occasionally misjudged movements or lacked connection with team-mates, her influence was undeniable and forced Paris into defensive errors.
Bompastor’s substitutions underlined the depth of Chelsea’s attacking options. Thompson was one of three forwards replaced, with Sam Kerr, Guro Reiten, and Maika Hamano entering to maintain offensive pressure. England full-back Lucy Bronze also returned for a cameo, her presence notable given she played the entire Euro 2025 campaign with a broken leg.

Ellie, a Chelsea fan, believes the side are now developing serious momentum. She said: Early on in the season, it's about getting points and getting the momentum and rhythm. The performances don’t matter, or at least nobody will remember them by the end of the season if we are successful. Against Paris FC though, it looked like the players got their mojo back, in the last twenty minutes especially.”
The midfielder Erin Cuthbert told Disney+: “At the weekend, we didn't really finish our chances. We had a lot of chances on goal and did not finish them. Even tonight there were times where we could be more clinical but we are definitely building better performances the last week or so.”
