Joe Gelhardt put the home side ahead early in the second half, only for super-sub Luke Berry to strike late and secure a point for the Addicks.

Nathan Jones made four changes to the side that had defeated Ipswich Town on Tuesday evening. Miles Leaburn, Tyreece Campbell and Rob Apter all started, while Harvey Knibbs made his first league start.

Charlton had the opening chances. Kayne Ramsay delivered a fine pass to Campbell, whose effort forced Ivor Pandur into an early save. Soon after, Apter sent a clever ball towards Campbell, but the forward could only direct it over the bar.

Hull responded with a spell of pressure as the first half progressed, but neither side managed to score before the break.

The deadlock was broken within minutes of the second half as Gelhardt capitalised on a defensive error to fire home for Hull. Charlton sought an immediate response, with Conor Coventry delivering a searching ball into the box that Campbell nodded just wide.

The Addicks pressed late in search of an equaliser. A shot from Berry was deflected out for a corner, which James Bree swung in. The ball fell back to Berry, who turned it in to secure a late point for Charlton at the MKM Stadium.

Gary, a Charlton fan who was in the away end at Hull, told us: "It's a great skill that our players don’t give up. I’m always confident we can get a goal in injury time and there’s no-one I expect it from more than Luke Berry. Brilliant player to have on the bench."

Jimmy added: "A proper battling performance. We now look like a solid Championship side which hasn't always been in the case when we have been in this division."

Terry told us: "Another point closer to safety. That has to be the first priority this season. Once that has been secured, we can start looking up the table."
