Championship | Swansea v QPR | View from the away end

Burrell volleyed in from close range to give QPR the lead, and Swansea’s evening went from bad to worse when Malick Yalcouye was sent off for violent conduct 11 minutes before the break.

Alan Sheehan’s side pressed for an equaliser but lacked creativity in the final third even before Yalcouye’s dismissal, and did not seriously test Paul Nardi until stoppage time, when the goalkeeper tipped away Zan Viptonik’s header.

The result means Julien Stephan’s side have now taken 10 points from four away league matches since their heavy defeat at Coventry in August. QPR rise to eighth in the Championship, level on points with the play-off spots but behind on goal difference.

For Swansea, it was a frustrating night that leaves them 16th after just one win in seven league games.

QPR might have gone ahead even earlier when Nicolas Madsen’s powerful effort was pushed away by Lawrence Vigouroux, but the breakthrough arrived moments later as Burrell turned in Isaac Hayden’s cross for his second goal in as many games.

Yalcouye’s red card followed a confrontation with Steve Cook after going down in the box. The Swansea midfielder appeared to lean his head into the defender, leaving the referee little choice but to send him off.

QPR could have made the game safe after the break, with Ilias Chair denied by Vigouroux, Richard Dunne hitting the post and Jonathan Varane shooting wide from the rebound. Swansea mounted a late rally, but the visitors stood firm to record another impressive win on the road.

QPR show promotion credentials again

Rangers have become a formidable force on the road since their 7-1 drubbing at Coventry, building on the three straight away victories that closed out last season.

They have now collected 19 points from their past nine league games away from home, while also showing improved consistency at Loftus Road. Aside from Saturday’s setback against Millwall, Julien Stephan’s side have lost only once in eight Championship matches and are beginning to look like genuine promotion contenders.

The players who stood out on the night

Isaac Hayden | Recalled to the starting line-up and fully justified his inclusion with a lively midfield display and a well-placed assist, pulling the ball back for Rumarn Burrell to finish.

Nicolas Madsen | Impressive performance. Responded well after an off-day against Millwall, showing composure in possession and real strength when winning the ball back.

Rumarn Burrell | Displayed both determination and finesse, relentlessly pressing Swansea’s defenders and chasing every loose ball, while showing admirable composure to guide his finish into the far corner.
