The breakthrough finally arrived nine minutes from time when the Brazilian forward converted from the spot, only for Zian Flemming to haul Burnley level with a penalty of his own four minutes later.

Brentford were back in front almost immediately as Thiago pounced from close range after Jordan Henderson’s delivery unsettled the Burnley back line. Dango Ouattara added a third in stoppage time to hand the Clarets a fourth successive defeat and deepen their growing concerns.

Closer analysis of what happened

Pre match at Brentford v Burnley

The hosts set the tone early, with Thiago lifting a close-range effort over the bar after a cutback from Mikkel Damsgaard, who soon threatened again. Burnley, subdued for much of the half, did not register a shot on target until the closing moments when Zian Flemming drew an athletic save from Caoimhin Kelleher.

Thiago saw a goal ruled out for offside shortly after the interval, while Michael Kayode glanced a header narrowly wide as Keith Andrews’ side began to show signs of irritation. Their frustration eased when Axel Tuanzebe brought down Dango Ouattara in the area, giving Thiago the chance to put last weekend’s missed penalty behind him and open the scoring.

Burnley hit back swiftly when Kayode conceded a second penalty, with Flemming converting to notch his fourth goal in five games. Yet Thiago restored Brentford’s lead in the 86th minute before Ouattara wrapped up the points in stoppage time. The result lifts the Bees to eighth on 19 points from 13 matches, while Burnley stay second from bottom on 10.
