It was a deserved Chelsea win against Spurs.

Premier League | Tottenham v Chelsea | Views from the stands

Joao Pedro, short of both fitness and confidence in recent weeks, struck decisively after Moises Caicedo’s relentless pressing forced Micky van de Ven into an error inside his own box. Pedro coolly lifted the ball over Guglielmo Vicario to seal the points.

He might have had a hat-trick before the interval but for two excellent saves from the Italian goalkeeper, who dived low to his right to deny him once and then reacted sharply to turn away a volley.

That solitary goal proved enough against a Tottenham side bereft of ideas and limited to just three efforts on target. Mohamed Kudus offered their only real threat, shooting over from distance in the 33rd minute before finally forcing Robert Sanchez into action deep into first-half stoppage time.

Chelsea, however, could have won by a greater margin. Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez both squandered clear chances, Vicario again denied Pedro, and substitute Jamie Gittens fired over from close range.

The result lifts the Blues to fourth, level on 17 points with Spurs but behind on goal difference. Yet Tottenham’s home struggles persist. They have now managed just three victories in their last 19 matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, spanning the latter stages of Ange Postecoglou’s reign and the start of Thomas Frank’s.

Another flat Tottenham display

On the surface, Tottenham appear to be enjoying a strong campaign. After 10 Premier League matches, Thomas Frank’s side sit inside the top four and remain unbeaten in the Champions League.

But recent results, and the increasingly tense mood among supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, tell a different story.

Following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Chelsea, Frank once again urged his players to complete their customary lap of appreciation.

However, as boos rang out from the stands, Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence were seen on camera ignoring their manager and heading straight down the tunnel.
