Football Discussion | Tottenham fans debate managerial next steps

Another awful night for Tottenham Hotspur

We searched for what their fans were saying after that defeat. Do they need another new manager?

Peter: Spurs should consider turning to a familiar face from the club’s past, someone the supporters can rally behind. Figures such as Harry Redknapp, Tim Sherwood or Mauricio Pochettino would at least bring a sense of connection, much like Michael O'Neill did when he returned to Blackburn. Whoever takes charge would need to spark a fierce fight for survival because, as things stand, Spurs look in real danger of going down. Sam Allardyce could steady the ship, though the supporters might struggle to accept that appointment.

David: Spurs should appoint Ryan Mason until the end of the season. It might not transform their fortunes but someone with a genuine connection to the club might just inspire a response. At the moment that sense of identity appears to be missing.

Imran: Keep Igor Tudor in place for now, at least until after what feels like an inevitable hammering against Liverpool. The last thing Spurs need is another interim manager suffering a heavy defeat in his first match.

Mark: Ryan Mason does not really have a relationship with the current squad. If the club wants someone who truly understands Tottenham, then Glenn Hoddle would be the obvious choice. He loves the club, he is an excellent coach and remains a thoughtful tactician.

Chris: Spurs the other night brought back memories of England’s defeat to Iceland at UEFA Euro 2016. There was plenty of talent on the pitch but little cohesion, players running around without real direction. Gareth Southgate eventually lifted England to a higher level and perhaps he could bring that same sense of structure to Tottenham.
