Nottingham Forest deepened Tottenham’s relegation concerns with a damaging victory that could yet prove pivotal in the battle at the bottom.
Goals from Igor Jesus, Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi settled this basement encounter, lifting Forest three points clear of the drop zone. The result moves them up to 16th, above Spurs, who sit just a point clear of the bottom three following West Ham’s defeat at Aston Villa.
It adds further uncertainty around Tottenham’s interim manager Igor Tudor, still early in his tenure after only seven matches in charge.
Spurs’ failed pursuit of Gibbs-White last summer lingered in the background. The move descended into a dispute that saw Forest threaten legal action, and seven months on the midfielder’s goal carried added significance, nudging Tottenham closer to the Championship while securing Forest’s first Premier League win under Vitor Pereira since his arrival in February.
Tottenham’s decline shows little sign of easing. They have not won in the league since 28 December and have lost six of their past seven matches, a run that has left them increasingly vulnerable. Tudor has overseen five defeats in his seven games, with this perhaps the most concerning yet.
The home side failed to capitalise on early pressure
Mathys Tel struck the bar as Tottenham sought an immediate reply, but they were punished again after 62 minutes. Gibbs-White was left unmarked in the area and turned in Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cutback, the effort slipping through Guglielmo Vicario’s hands.
Lucas Bergvall then sliced a presentable chance wide, and any hope of a comeback faded. Awoniyi added a third in the closing stages, leaving Tottenham with seven matches to preserve their Premier League status.
