Happier times at Stamford Bridge this season

Rosenior had signed a five-and-a-half-year contract on arrival from Strasbourg, another club under the ownership umbrella of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

His tenure yielded 11 wins from 23 matches in all competitions, but a 3-0 defeat at Brighton on Tuesday proved decisive. The result extended Chelsea’s run to five successive league defeats without scoring, their longest barren spell since 1912.

After the match, Rosenior labelled the display “indefensible” and “unacceptable”, with frustration among travelling supporters audible throughout the evening on the south coast.

Short and longer term replacements for Rosenior

Several reports suggest Chelsea are considering a shortlist that includes Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic as potential successors to Liam Rosenior.

Iraola, 43, confirmed last week that he will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season, while Silva is approaching the final weeks of his contract at Fulham, with his deal due to expire in July. Terzic had also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season following the dismissal of Thomas Frank.

Chelsea have placed Calum McFarlane in interim charge for the remainder of the campaign. McFarlane, who served as Rosenior’s assistant, previously oversaw a 1-1 draw with Manchester City and a defeat at Fulham in January after the departure of Enzo Maresca.
