Cole Palmer was the star of the show
Xabi Alonso's tenure as Chelsea manager began with an entertaining Premier League victory at neighbours Fulham.

Palmer was outstanding at Craven Cottage, setting up Joao Pedro for the opener after just 31 seconds before scoring the decisive goal himself with a cool finish through Bernd Leno's legs.
Palmer was virtually impossible to contain at times, while Alonso will have been equally pleased to see the club's record summer signing Morgan Rogers score on his league debut. Rogers converted from a cutback by another new arrival, Maxence Lacroix.

It wasn't all bad for Fulham
The home side made sure Alonso's first competitive match in charge was anything but straightforward.
Teenage midfielder Josh King impressed throughout and deservedly brought the hosts level in the first half, firing a powerful effort past Robert Sanchez at his near post.
Gonzalo Garcia, another summer signing from Real Madrid, then opened his Fulham account when he headed home from close range, giving Alvaro Arbeloa's side hope of claiming a point in an open and entertaining contest.
Chelsea, though, held firm to secure their first victory in the opening league fixture of a season since 2022-23.
