Football Analysis | Below-par Arsenal fight back to beat Leeds
Arsenal 2 - 1 Leeds United
It wasn't a great Arsenal performance but they got the three points
In contrast to the turmoil and upheaval affecting their main title rivals this season, Arsenal's status as favourites to win successive league titles for the first time since 1935 is built on the stability of the club.
Already the longest-serving manager in the English top flight following Pep Guardiola's departure from Manchester City, Mikel Arteta would pass a decade in charge of the Gunners if he sees out the new contract he signed this week.
Although Arsenal fell short of the standards Arteta has come to expect from his team on Saturday, their revival during the final half-hour means they have lost consecutive Premier League games only once under the Spaniard since the start of 2024.
The home side bounced back following Brighton defeat
The Arsenal manager will hope this comeback, against one of the league's most in-form sides, signals a return to the performances that preceded their defeat by Brighton.
The hosts made a positive start but struggled to find their rhythm during a frustrating first half, in which their confident opponents created the better chances.
David Raya made fine saves to deny efforts from marauding wing-backs Jayden Bogle and Gudmundsson, while Kai Havertz's tame header was Arsenal's only shot on target before the interval.
However, Calafiori's equaliser eased the tension, and Arsenal's greater squad depth ultimately proved decisive, with Guimaraes making a significant impact after coming on.
Martin Odegaard could have made the final scoreline more convincing but failed to convert Declan Rice's pass into the six-yard box in the closing stages.
