Football | Spurs fans taking the 'scenic' route to Bilbao

Image
How are Spurs fans getting to Bilbao for the Europa League final? With flights scarce and prices inflated, supporters have turned to boats, buses, coaches and convoluted train journeys to reach the Basque Country.  Author - Greg S It is a stark reminder of the lengths loyal fans will go to for the privilege of standing on foreign soil, clad in their colours, and singing their hearts out. The romanticism of a European away day remains, but this trip has become needlessly difficult. Perhaps, it also shows how desperate Spurs fans are to see their side win a trophy. It has been a while.  Below, supporters shared with us their often absurd, always committed travel plans to get to Bilbao, in their own words, slightly polished for clarity. Amy: “I’ll be setting off on my birthday, driving from the Midlands to London on 20 May. Then it’s the Eurostar to Paris, metro across the city, and a train down to Bordeaux. From there, I’m on a Flixbus overnight to Bilbao, arriving in the e...

Football | Arsenal fan reaction to Champions League exit.

Image
The immediate response from an Arsenal fan watching on in Paris What do you think of their performance? Author - Edward Mikel Arteta arrived in Paris with the promise of making history, but it was the weight of recent disappointments that ultimately defined Arsenal’s exit from the Champions League. Despite looking dangerous at times, Arsenal were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain, a side that has knocked out some of the Premier League’s leading lights during this European campaign. As fireworks lit up the night sky and noise echoed around the stadium, Arteta and his players were left to absorb a bitter conclusion. They now join Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa as Premier League casualties of Luis Enrique’s dynamic and fast-maturing side. Beneath the surface lies a more unsettling truth for Arsenal. The club remains without a major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 2020, and for all the rhetoric around development and trajectory, it is silverware that defines success at ...

Football: Tottenham Hotspur 3 - 1 Bodø/Glimt

Image
How costly could that late goal be for Tottenham Hotspur? The home side delivered one of their most assured displays of the campaign, leaving them just two matches away from ending a trophy drought that stretches back to 2008. Author - Greg S Ange Postecoglou’s side made a blistering start, taking the lead after just 38 seconds when Brennan Johnson nodded in from Richarlison’s cushioned header. James Maddison then doubled the advantage with a touch of class, bringing down Pedro Porro’s long pass and guiding the ball into the far corner with composure. Dominic Solanke added a third from the penalty spot, coolly converting after Cristian Romero had been brought down in the area. Bodo/Glimt, known for their high-tempo approach and eye-catching results in recent seasons, were largely second-best. Their only real moment of threat came when Ulrik Saltnes’ deflected strike flew past Rodrigo Bentancur and into the top corner. This was their sole effort on target. READ MORE: The story of To...
