Another defeat for QPR as they remain 14th in the Championship
First-half goals from Tommy Conway and Anfernee Dijksteel had put Boro in control. A late strike from Steve Cook ensured a nervy finish, with QPR pushing hard for an equaliser in stoppage time.
For Marti Cifuentes' QPR, who slip to 15th, this was a seventh defeat in nine, a worrying slump as they head into the season’s final stretch.
The win lifts Michael Carrick’s side back to eighth, just three points behind Coventry in the final play-off spot.
Boro had endured a dire run earlier in the year, losing five in a row from late January into February, but looked to have turned a corner with back-to-back victories before their defeat at Swansea. That made Conway’s 11th-minute opener all the more significant, the striker turning in Finn Azaz’s low cross from the byline to spark a huge sigh of relief around the Riverside.
Boro could have doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark, but Delano Burgzorg blazed over from a promising position. Hayden Hackney then tested Asmir Begovic with a long-range effort, while Conway saw a shot blocked as the hosts piled on the pressure.

QPR had their chances too, and Kenny Paal should have made them pay for their missed opportunities, but he fired over from 13 yards after a clever pass from Yang Min-hyeok.
Boro tightened their grip just before the hour mark when Dijksteel weaved his way across the edge of the box and drilled a low left-footed shot inside the far post.

But any hopes of a routine finish were dashed when Cook stabbed home from a corner in the 80th minute, setting up a tense finale. QPR threw everything forward in search of a dramatic equaliser, and in the dying moments, goalkeeper Paul Nardi almost became an unlikely hero.
With the final seconds ticking away, a long throw was flicked into his path, but his header was comfortably gathered by Mark Travers. It was the last action of the game, and Boro clung on for a vital three points.
