Charlton Athletic recorded their second successive win with a convincing 3-0 victory that piled further misery on a troubled Blackburn Rovers.
Macaulay Gillesphey’s header from a James Bree free-kick gave the hosts a first-half lead and, unlike in previous matches, there was no fightback from Rovers. Instead, Charlton grew stronger after the break, Sonny Carey doubling the advantage with a thunderous 25-yard strike before Bree added a composed third in stoppage time.

It capped a poor week for Blackburn, who were left frustrated by the EFL’s decision to order a replay of their abandoned game against Ipswich Town, a match they had been leading with 10 minutes to go. Any hopes their sense of injustice might inspire a response quickly evaporated in south London as Valerien Ismael’s side looked flat and bereft of ideas.

Charlton, by contrast, are beginning to find their rhythm under Nathan Jones after a difficult start to life back in the Championship. Having ended a four-game winless run with a late victory at Sheffield United, they looked assured against a Rovers team who struggled to create clear chances.
Balazs Toth had kept Blackburn in the contest with sharp saves, but their appeals for a penalty after Todd Cantwell’s cross struck Lloyd Jones on the arm were waved away. From then on, Charlton took full control, Bree’s delivery repeatedly stretching the visitors before Carey’s strike settled the contest. Substitute Isaac Olaofe again made an impact late on, setting up Bree for the third to seal a deserved victory.
