Brentford struck first when Josh King’s loose pass on the edge of his own box was seized upon by Mikkel Damsgaard, who calmly drilled into the corner.

Fulham’s response was swift. Sasa Lukic’s shot looped into a crowded area and Iwobi reacted sharply, driving his effort through the legs of Brentford captain Nathan Collins. Two minutes later he turned provider, threading an incisive ball for Harry Wilson to lash beyond Caoimhin Kelleher.

The visitors’ momentum carried into the second half. A mix-up saw Ethan Pinnock misjudge Ryan Sessegnon’s cross and send the ball into his own net via his shoulder. Rodrigo Muniz then thought he had added a spectacular fourth, only for referee Michael Oliver to rule it out after a VAR check on his aerial clash with Collins, which left the defender bloodied.

The victory lifts Fulham to seventh in the table, while Brentford slide to 17th.

Which players stood out for Fulham?

Joachim Andersen: This display summed up the strong start to his season. He commanded the box, dealt with Thiago aerially and registered a game-high 11 clearances, a huge figure that underlined his authority. His raking diagonal to Ryan Sessegnon in the build-up to Fulham’s third goal was outstanding in both length and precision, one of nine long passes he completed. Andersen also continues to pose a threat at set pieces. Having already gone close against Manchester United and Chelsea, he twice tested Caoimhin Kelleher from corners in the 15th minute, forcing the keeper into a strong punch on the first attempt.

Sasa Lukic: An Andersen goal from a Lukic corner feels inevitable, with the pair combining dangerously once again. It is clearly a rehearsed routine and one that has already yielded multiple near misses. Lukic’s all-round display was equally impressive, covering ground across midfield and pushing into attacking areas. One effort went narrowly wide, another sparked the sequence that led to Iwobi’s equaliser. A performance full of energy and invention, and his most effective outing of the season so far.

Alex Iwobi: Lively from the outset, he set the tone with his sharpness and direct running. His instinctive finish for Fulham’s equaliser showed superb reactions, while his incisive through ball to carve open Brentford’s defence moments later was the highlight of the match. This was Iwobi at his best, driving Fulham forward and setting standards in the final third.
