This result ended Nathan Jones’s side’s perfect September but ensured they remained unbeaten throughout the month.
James Bree’s first-half volley, the culmination of a slick move, put the visitors in front, but Matt Clarke’s late header ensured Derby claimed a share of the points. Both sides pressed for a winner in the closing stages, yet the stalemate felt a fair outcome.
A closer analysis of what happened
Jones made two changes from the side that eased past Blackburn at the weekend, handing Macaulay Gillesphey his first start of the season in place of the injured Josh Edwards, while Kayne Ramsay came in for Reece Burke.
Derby made the sharper start, with Amari’i Bell intercepting an early cut-back that might otherwise have produced a second-minute opener. Charlton’s first effort came from Charlie Kelman, whose deflected strike was gathered by Jacob Widell Zetterstrom. Tyreece Campbell also threatened, cutting inside and firing narrowly wide.

The breakthrough arrived midway through the half with a contender for Charlton’s goal of the season. Kelman controlled superbly before releasing Campbell down the left. The winger’s cut-back found Sonny Carey, who in turn teed up Greg Docherty. The captain’s cushioned pass set Bree to volley across goal with precision for his second in as many games.
The second half was more attritional. Kelman forced Zetterstrom into a smart stop while Thomas Kaminski preserved the lead at the other end with an excellent save from Bobby Clark. But Derby eventually levelled 11 minutes from time when Clarke rose to head home Lewis Travis’s cross.
Harvey Knibbs went close from a corner and in stoppage time Greg Docherty’s goalbound effort struck teammate Tanto Olaofe. The Addicks were left frustrated, though their unbeaten momentum continues into October with a trip to Preston.
