Despite constant pressure, QPR’s only shot on target came late in the first half when Michael Frey curled a shot from the edge of the area, only for Jamie Cumming to make a smart save in the Oxford goal.

Despite relentless pressure and nine corners, Rangers could not convert their superiority into goals. The result sees them slip to 10th in the table, while Oxford climb out of the relegation zone to 21st with what was their first clean sheet of the league campaign.

The visitors offered little going forward, and it was not until stoppage time that they created their only real chance. Brian De Keersmaecker delivered a free-kick from the right, and Michal Helik rose to meet it, but his looping header drifted wide.

Rangers had their moments but failed to create a decisive opening. Steve Cook shot over from a tight angle in the first half and later headed over from a corner, while Rumarn Burrell stretched to meet a low cross at the near post but stabbed wide.

A closer look at the performance of some QPR players

Rhys Norrington-Davies: Another solid defensive display. He also offered some much-needed attacking drive on a night when it was largely absent elsewhere in the side.

Steve Cook: A strong performance on his return to the line-up. He made a couple of crucial interventions that might otherwise have handed Oxford clear chances.

Nicolas Madsen: His forward passing from midfield gave the home side greater fluency, underlining once more why he has been a regular starter this season.

Richard Kone: He faded as the match wore on but often looked the most likely to spark something in attack.

Paul Smyth: Like many of the players, he put the effort in but perhaps lacked the quality on the night. He did produce a couple of dangerous runs down the right.
