Football: Wycombe Wanderers 0 - 4 Charlton Athletic

Image
Charlton Athletic produced a statement performance on Easter Monday. They swept aside fellow promotion hopefuls Wycombe Wanderers to keep their automatic promotion hopes in League One alive. Author - Jack L The Addicks travelled to Adams Park knowing only a win would realistically keep them in the hunt for a top-two finish, and they delivered in style, dispatching the home side 4-0 in a dominant display. Dean Holden’s side took control from the outset, asserting their authority early on and rarely allowing Wycombe a moment’s peace. Their pressure paid off just 11 minutes in when Lloyd Jones opened the scoring, calmly slotting past Will Norris after being picked out in the box. Charlton’s intensity continued and was rewarded again in the 24th minute. This time it was Luke Berry who doubled the lead with a superb finish from 15 yards, rifling home to the delight of the travelling support. Tyreece Campbell strike earns Charlton Athletic narrow win over Cambridge United Campbell’s early goal proved decisive as Charlton Athletic edged out struggling Cambridge United 1-0 in their League One clash. Author - Greg S The Addicks hit the front with their very first meaningful attack after just 14 minutes. Campbell was afforded too much space down the left, cutting inside before driving a low shot beyond goalkeeper Jack Stevens. The Charlton forward nearly doubled his tally in similar fashion just 12 minutes later, but this time Stevens was equal to the effort, getting down smartly to make a strong save. Moments later, Campbell was involved again, slipping the ball to Matty Godden, whose strike rattled the far post with Stevens well beaten. Charlton continue fine form with a win at Mansfield Charlton Athletic extended their impressive run with a battling 2-1 victory at Mansfield, making it seven wins and a draw from their last eight games. Author - Terry J The visitors started strongly and came close to an early breakthrough, with Thierry Small heading wide from Tyreece Campbell’s inviting cross inside the opening two minutes.  Macaulay Gillesphey then tested Christy Pym with a low drive after 13 minutes, but the Mansfield goalkeeper was equal to it. Charlton’s pressure paid off in the 22nd minute, albeit with a slice of fortune. A loose pass from Louis Reed at the back rolled straight into the path of Matty Godden, who made no mistake in capitalising on the gift.
